DYI – Frugal Facial
We all want to keep our skin looking young and fresh however, spa treatments and professional treatments can be astronomical in price… definitely not a priority for us who live frugally. Well, I have a solution. You can make great facial masks with things that are already in your pantry. These are my own personal recipes that I have or my daughters have used and they really work.
Do you or one of your teens have to deal with acne? My oldest daughter suffers from it. We spent hundreds of dollars at the dermatologist with no change in her skin. Not to mention the medications they prescribed burned her skin. She and I did some homework and this is our solution for acne.
5 aspirin -I buy the uncoated generic type at CVS. They have a bottle that has 1000 tablets for $10
2-3 Tbsp. Greek yogurt
1 Tbsp raw honey –
I use my Mortar & Pestle to ground the asprins. Mix yogurt and honey. Add ground aspirin. Fold until aspirins are disolved. You will have a paste. Coat face, leave for 10 to 20 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
We do this mask twice per week until breakout is gone. My 13 year old has just started this mask. Hence the 1000 count bottle of aspirin….LOL. This mask is really inexpensive and it really works.
Next, I will share our Moisturizing Mask. Making oatmeal for breakfast? Save a couple of teaspoons for your mask. Here’s what you do…
2 Tbsp. Greek yogurt
1 Tbsp. raw honey
1-2 Tbsp. cooked oatmeal
Mix everything into a paste. Smooth over face in circular motions. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
Finally, the our Exfoliating Mask for irritated skin. This is probably the most expensive of the mask because of the price of the nuts. I’m working on a substitue and when I find one as effective, I’ll let you know.
1 Tbsp honey
1 plain Greek yogurt
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
2 Tbsp. finely round almonds (again, I use the mortar & pestle)
Mix all ingredients. Rub in circular motion. Leave on face 10-15 minutes. Wash with warm water.
Well, that it. I hope you enjoy your frugal facials.
